History of the CRJ 700
|
The Bombardier CRJ 700 belongs to a family of aircraft including the CRJ 900 and the CRJ 1000
that is based on the CRJ 200. Final assembly of the CRJ 700 is at Montreal-Mirabel International
Airport near Montreal, Quebec.
The CRJ 700 is intended as a competitor to the larger Boeing 717, the Boeing 737 and the Embraer E-Jets.
With 70 seats in the stretched version, however, the CRJ 700 is still very much a regional aircraft
primarily for spoke service. In Europe, however, the CRJ 700 is a common workhorse especially for
Lufthansa German Airways.
The CRJ 700's first flight was in 1999, and in 2001, the aircraft entered airline service with Brit Air.
The CRJ 700 was replaced in 2008 with the CRJ700NextGen which includes improved
economics and a revised cabin common to the CRJ900NextGen and CRJ 1000. In August 2006,
260 CRJ 700 aircraft were in airline service. Lufthansa CityLine operates 20 CRJ 700. ASA Atlantic
Southeast Airlines (SkyWest, Inc.) operates over 39 CRJ 700.

US Airways, Inc., an operating unit of US Airways Group, is the sixth largest airline in the United States. A member of the Star Alliance, the airline has a fleet of 353 mainline jet aircraft and 319 regional jet and turbo-prop aircraft connecting 200 destinations in North America, Central America, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Europe and the Middle East. As of December 2008, US Airways, headquartered in Tempe, Arizona,[1] employs 33,765 people worldwide and operates 3,130 daily flights (1,312 US Airways Mainline, 1,818 US Airways Express as of December 2008). The airline merged with America West Airlines in 2005 and the combined airline retained the US Airways name. This is a repaint of the standard CRJ-700 Bombardier model in Flight Simulator X. The repaint will function in the full version as well as in the demo version. The repaint is very exact and looks much better than the default versions offered by Microsoft. This Star Alliance aircraft is operated by US Airways. You can see the US Airways logo on the side of the plane. Of course, it's still only a repaint, but the detail is extraordinary and one of the best I've seen. Installation is very simple and described fairly well in the included readme file. This add-on adds a new livery version for the Microsoft Flightsimulator X standard Bombardier CRJ700. The graphics are very exact and carefully done to show realism and eyecandy. The colors show the Eurowings version of this regional carrier. The Bombardier CRJ700 is a regional airliner based on the Bombardier CRJ200. Final assembly of the aircraft is at Montréal-Mirabel International Airport near Montreal, Québec. The CRJ700 is a stretched 70-seat version equipped with the General Electric CF34-8C1 engine. Maximum speed is Mach 0.85 at a maximum altitude of 41,000 feet (12,500 m). Depending upon payload, the CRJ-700 can travel up to 2250 statute miles (3,600 km) with current engines, and a new variant with CF34-8C5 engines will be able to travel up to 2895 miles (4,660 km). The model packaged with Microsoft Flight Simulator was developed, of course, specifically for the new version X animation features and provides for exquisite detail. Deutsche Lufthansa AG is one of the largest airlines in Europe in terms of overall passengers carried, and the flag carrier of Germany. Together with its partners Lufthansa services around 410 destinations. Malév Hungarian Airlines (Hungarian: Magyar Légiközlekedési Vállalat, abbreviated Malév), is the flag carrier airline of Hungary and is based at Budapest Ferihegy International Airport. It is the principal Hungarian airline and flies to 50 cities in 34 countries worldwide. Malév does not have any CRJ 700, but the airline does have one CRJ 200, carrying up to 48 passengers. The CRJ 700 is based on the CRJ 200 frame. At the Farnborough Air Show in July 2008, Malév signed a contract with Canada's Bombardier for the delivery of eight Q400 turboprop aircraft with an option for a further four at a cost of €226m to replace the regional CRJ and Fokker 70 fleet. The Bombardier CRJ100 and CRJ200 are a family of regional airliner manufactured by Bombardier, and based on the Canadair Challenger business jet. The aircraft was based on the Canadair Challenger design, which was purchased by Canadair from Learjet in 1976. As of August 2006 a total of 938 CRJ100 and CRJ200 aircraft (all variants) are in airline service, with 8 further firm orders. This download includes textures for the default Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX version. The textures are very easy to install, and instructions are included. This livery for CRJs available at FS Aerospace Central is the author's favorite livery based especially on the green swoosh and clear lines lacking pixelation.

This is a nice rendering of the US Airways livery with its modern white, red and blue colors. Simply install the texture and amend the aircraft.cfg to include the new textures. Close-up views are not as sharp as you may be used to but overall, this is a simple small add-on that provides for a change of curtains.
